Citrus Springs Florida is a master planned community located in the northern section of Citrus County. Although Citrus Springs is a deed-restricted community there is no home owner's association and no annual dues.
Citrus Springs is platted for 35,000 lots and about 32,000 of them are set aside for residential use with a central water system. While the development was started with retirees in mind, there are now many families here. From Tampa, the Suncoast Parkway now extends north to the Citrus County border and has cut the travel time in half. A further extension is planned through Citrus County, west of Citrus Springs. Three exits will give Citrus Springs easy access to this toll way and make it possible to commute to Tampa in about an hour.

There are several schools in Citrus Springs. There are two elementary schools and a middle school, and future plans for a high school to be constructed on a site near the middle school. Each school has about a thousand pupils. And the Central Florida Community College has a campus in nearby Lecanto.
Medical facilities in Citrus Springs include the Citrus Springs Family Dentistry, Citrus Primary Care, and nearby Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center as well as three hospitals in Ocala.
One of the most popular activities in Citrus Springs in golf. There is the Citrus Springs Golf and Country Club right within the community. The Citrus Springs Golf Course offers a fully stocked pro shop, satisfying the needs of golfers, from beginners to pros. The 18-hole layout and rolling terrain of the course is reminiscent of North Carolina golf courses. Several holes have sharp doglegs approaching elevated greens which require precise iron play. Four sets of tees allow golfers of all skill levels to enjoy this course.
